BWA Colwick Park events
The BWA holds up to three weekend events each year at Colwick Park, Nottingham subject to the agreement of Nottingham City Council and Nottingham Airport ATC. On-site camping is available for the weekend. A small fee is made for each event to cover the cost of lake hire, fuel etc.
The events will be held on the following weekends:
18-19th May
13-14th July
14-15th September
Flying takes place from 10am on Saturday and Sunday with the pilots’ briefing held at 9:45am each day. The entry fee is £5 per day or £8 for the weekend for BWA members, £7 per day or £10 for the weekend for non-members. All pilots must show proof of insurance when booking in and hold a minimum of the BMFA ‘A’ certificate (or equivalent).
Colwick Country Park is on River Road, NG4 2EW (follow the signs to Colwick Park water users). The park has restricted access for vehicles so the gate will be manned between 8:30 and 9:30am on both days for flyers to drive on site. If you get delayed on the day and arrive later than 9:30am, go to the kiosk and ask for a contact number for the event organiser. Note that the staff in the kiosk cannot let you into the park so do not ask them to do so.
Please be aware that a parkrun takes place each Saturday morning from 9-10am - please watch out for runners and keep to the 10mph speed limit on site.
Note that there is no vehicle access for spectators who must park either near the kiosk (fee payable) or use the free car park at the end of Racecourse Road (postcode NG2 4BH), from where it is a short walk to the flying site.
Camping is available for tents, caravans and motorhomes from 2pm on the Friday for those who wish to stay on site. There will be a charge (tba) for camping, payable to the event organiser on the day (cash only please). The campsite is grassed but can get waterlogged in bad weather, in which case camping may be moved to a nearby car park which has a hard surface. Please email [email protected] in advance to reserve a camping pitch.
We look forward to seeing you all at the events at Colwick Country Park this year. Please contact the event organiser, Nick Cripps, at [email protected] if you have any questions or require any further information.
Please note that due to a potential conflict with the local Trent MFC, we can only fly using 2.4GHz radio at this location. We have a maximum height limit of 400ft.
